In the ordinary, we find the extraordinary

One day, Professor Dan Pedoe, a British geometer, received a phone call from someone seeking his advice: If there is a point P inside an equilateral triangle, does the sum of the distances from P to the three sides of the triangle remain constant regardless of the position of P within the triangle? Pedoe immediately provided a response that satisfied the caller.

    Actually, this is a problem that even a middle school student can solve!

     

    However, this simple problem can provide us with a valuable lesson: starting from ordinary facts, we can arrive at extraordinary conclusions. And mathematicians, with their perspective, often see extraordinary things behind seemingly ordinary facts.
