  • “The child prodigy” Lun Wen Xu.
  • In the Ming Dynasty, Guangdong produced the first-place scholar named Lun Wen Xu. He was born into a humble background and earned a living by selling vegetables. At the age of thirteen, he caught the attention of Hu Yuanwai, who asked him to inscribe a poem on Su Dongpo's painting "Hundred Birds Returning to the Nest."

    After pondering for a while, Lun Wen Xu wrote:

    "天生一隻又一隻,

    三四五六七八隻;

    鳳凰何少鳥何多,

    啄盡人間千萬石。"

    He explained, "Heaven creates one bird after another, and if we count 3 times 4 plus 5 times 6 plus 7 times 8, it equals 98, so in total, there are 100 birds." This demonstrates Lun Wen Xu's remarkable mathematical talent, which truly astonishes people!
